Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is now available on HBO Max
by Rodrigo CavalheiroFollowing its release in theatres worldwide The Secrets of Dumbledore, the third film in the Fantastic Beasts series – Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore – is now available for streaming online on HBO’s streaming service HBO Max in addition to virtual stores.
As well as having the new Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Warner Bros.’ streaming service also has available in its catalog the first two films of the series: Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in addition to the 8 films of the Harry Potter series and the special: Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.
The premiere is part of the Hollywood giant’s new strategy which has fans waiting about 45 days after release of new films in theatres before releasing the film to its streaming platform. This is how Warner Bros. handled its release of The Batman (2022) starring Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).
This strategy likely follows the effects the pandemic had on the rise of streaming films rather than watching them in the theatre. A similar strategy is in place on Disney’s streaming service Disney+. The film suffered multiple pushbacks on its release date due to the pandemic as well as the accusations put forward against Johnny Depp by his ex-wife Amber Heard. The film premiered in London about 8 days before its theatrical release, and about 62 days before its release on HBO Max.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is set in the early 20th century and explores further the global Wizarding World: the film travels to Germany, Brazil, and Bhutan. Newt Scamander and his team are set with the task of taking down Gellert Grindelwald and his army by Albus Dumbledore to defeat Grindelwald’s war against muggles.
Eddie Redmayne reprises his role as Newt Scamander and Jude Law as a young Albus Dumbledore, alongside Ezra Miller as Credence/Aurelio Dumbledore, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein, Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, and Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein.
The film also sees the return of Jessica Williams as Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks, a teacher at Ilvermorny’s School of Witchcraft and Magic school, and Mads Mikkelsen’s debut in the Fantastic Beasts series as the main antagonist Grindelwald. Mikkelson’s debut as Grindelwald follows the departure of Johnny Depp from the Fantastic Beasts series at the request of Warner Bros.
The Secrets of Dumbledore also sees the participation of Maria Fernanda Cândido and Dave Wong as Vicência Santos and Liu Tao respectively. Cândido and Wong play two candidates for the position of Supreme Magician of the International Confederation of Wizards.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was written by J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves and is directed by David Yates and features production by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram and Tim Lewis.
