The Harry Potter HBO trailer broke every record 277 million views in 48 hours
by Marcelo NevesTwo days. 277 million views.
The official trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released on 27 March 2026 and immediately shattered every record HBO has ever held. In 48 hours, it accumulated 277 million organic views, no paid promotion, becoming the most-watched trailer in HBO and HBO Max history, exceeding the previous record by more than double.
To put that in context: the record it broke was already from a production of enormous scale. Harry Potter didn’t just beat it, it obliterated it.
What the trailer shows
The full trailer expands considerably on what the teaser had previewed. We see the trio, Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout, in scenes that book fans will recognise immediately. There’s a real sense of fidelity to the source material, with details the films never had room to include.
The adult cast appears with much more presence: John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid. Every casting choice that generated debate in the announcements now has context, and the general fandom reaction was relief and enthusiasm.
Christmas 2026 confirmed
The trailer reconfirms: 25 December 2026 on HBO. The full season runs eight episodes, adapting Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in its entirety.
277 million people watched in two days. Potterish was among them, and we’ll be here covering every detail until Christmas.
