The First Official Teaser for HBO’s Harry Potter Series Is Here, and It’s Everything We Needed to See
by Marcelo NevesAfter years of waiting, announcements, cast reveals doled out in instalments, theories, and hearts in mouths, HBO has finally given us what we asked for: the first official teaser for the new Harry Potter series.
And yes. The magic has truly arrived.
The teaser dropped on 25 March 2026, during the HBO Max launch event in London, and it arrived with subtitles in Portuguese for our Brazilian fans. No excuses. Watch it now:
? The series at a glance
| Title | Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone |
| Premiere | 25 December 2026 |
| Platform | Max (HBO Max) |
| Episodes | 8, weekly release |
| Director | Mark Mylod (Succession, The Last of Us) |
| Writer | Francesca Gardiner |
In just over two minutes, the teaser captures the spirit of everything we love about this story. Harry under the stairs, being intimidated by the Dursleys, including the scissors scene that readers will recognise immediately. The first meeting with Hagrid. The Hogwarts Express. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans with a fresh new look. Dumbledore’s half-moon spectacles. And even the smudge of dirt on Ron’s nose. These are the details that prove whoever made this teaser actually read the books, and that is precisely what we needed to see.
The way Janet McTeer delivers “Mr Potter” as Professor McGonagall? That single scene is worth the entire teaser.
The cast we’re going to love
The teaser visually confirms the actors we already knew from previous announcements:
| Actor/Actress | Character |
|---|---|
| Dominic McLaughlin | Harry Potter |
| Arabella Stanton | Hermione Granger |
| Alastair Stout | Ron Weasley |
| John Lithgow | Albus Dumbledore |
| Janet McTeer | Minerva McGonagall |
| Nick Frost | Rubeus Hagrid |
| Paapa Essiedu | Severus Snape |
The series is written and produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing several episodes, the same director behind episodes of Succession and The Last of Us. Good sign.
Premiere: Christmas 2026
The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, arrives on Max on 25 December 2026, Christmas Day, as British tradition demands. Eight episodes, released weekly. So: Christmas with Harry Potter, followed by a few more anxious Sundays. Welcome back.
Our word
Potterish has been here since 2002. We were here when the first film arrived, we covered every book, every trailer, every rumour across more than two decades. And we will be here when this series premieres at Christmas.
What this teaser shows is not an attempt to replicate the films. It is a new interpretation, faithful to the spirit of the books, with genuine respect for the source material and the fandom. You can feel it. And the Brazilian fandom, and the global one, deserves coverage to match. That is exactly what we intend to do.
Stay with Potterish. There is much more to come.
