Warwick Davis returns as Professor Flitwick the only original film actor coming back
by Marcelo NevesIn September 2025, news arrived with a different flavour from all the other casting announcements: Warwick Davis is returning as Professor Filius Flitwick in the HBO series.
He’s the only one. The sole actor from the original film cast confirmed for the new series. There’s something beautiful and symbolic about that, a bridge between two adaptations, a human continuity in a project that otherwise starts entirely from scratch.
Davis played Flitwick in all eight original films. He also played Griphook. He is as deeply associated with Harry Potter as any actor alive, not just as a performer, but as someone who lived the phenomenon from the inside for over a decade.
When asked about the new series, he was as discreet as he needed to be: “I can’t really tell you anything other than we’re retelling those wonderful stories, but with more depth and detail than has been seen before.”
Others announced in the same batch
Leigh Gill as Griphook, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout, Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns and Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey.
For those who grew up watching Warwick Davis as Flitwick, that small professor who would tumble off his chair whenever he saw something excellent, seeing his name on the cast list is a genuine gift.
Hogwarts is still Hogwarts.
