Tom Felton makes his Broadway debut as Draco, and the applause stopped the show

Tom Felton walked on stage as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and did something no one had managed before: he is the first member of the original film cast to join the stage production. For anyone who grew up watching cinema’s most famous Slytherin, it was a goosebumps moment.
The reception was pure cinema, ironically. When Felton appeared, the audience erupted. According to Deadline and ABC News, his first line back in character, “Potter… I need a favor”, was halted by roughly thirty seconds of applause, the actor standing still on stage, waiting for the crowd to let the sentence finish.
It is the first time in nearly 15 years that Felton has played Draco. He was 13 when he filmed Philosopher’s Stone, so this return carries real emotional weight, both for him and for Draco himself, who reappears as a grown man and father to Scorpius in the story.
I admit I envy everyone who was in that audience. Is there anything lovelier than watching an actor reunite with the role that practically defined his childhood, and realising the crowd never forgot? Felton’s Draco was always more human than the cardboard villain he could have been.
