Harry Potter TV Series (HBO)

From Cornwall to Yorkshire: where the Harry Potter series is filming

The heart of the production beats at Leavesden, in Hertfordshire, where the original films were also shot. But HBO’s Harry Potter series has not confined itself to the studio. Across 2025, the team spread cameras throughout the UK in search of real settings.

In October, Cornwall stepped into frame. Sightings from residents and reports in the local press, aggregated by fan sites such as Redanian Intelligence, place the filming on the Lizard peninsula, at Kynance Cove and Cadgwith, including a rain sequence with Harry and the Dursleys, along with the Carnglaze Caverns. The same month, over in Yorkshire, stunt performers were spotted at work in Skipton and near Malham.

The list of locations goes further. There were shoots at London Zoo, Borough Market and King’s Cross station, and reports suggest Ashridge also hosted part of the cast in November. There are rumours, too, that Windsor Great Park is being transformed to stand in for the Scottish Highlands.

Unlike some productions that reuse old sets, HBO is building its own from scratch. It is a costly decision, but it reinforces the intention to create a distinct visual identity rather than copying the films shot for shot.

Filming on the first season is expected to run until mid-2026, with the second already due to begin late that same year. For anyone who loves the British, geographic side of this universe, it is a delight to watch the real map of the wizarding world taking shape. Follow the production on our HBO series hub.
