Harry, Ron and Hermione are the friends we never had, says J.K. Rowling
by Rodrigo CavalheiroIn a video, J.K. Rowling explained how Harry Potter‘s world conquered millions of readers and went over language, culture and age barriers. Although themes related to magic call attention, what really enchanted people were the relationship among characters, said Rowling in a short documentary for the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald‘s Blu-ray, available online through the Hypable portal.
“I think the relationship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione and of us, in the Potter books, was actually at the heart of why people connected so much with these stories,” said Rowling. “Sometimes it’s ‘these are friends that I wish I had’ or ‘these are friends I feel that I do have’ within the pages of the books or às I watch the stories. That’s what art can do: it can give you relationships you never had.”
David Yates, who directed all the Wizarding World movies since Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, also talked about the power of these stories. He remembered that when he finished editing The Crimes of Grindelwald, he saw a 7-year-old boy walking around London dressed up as Harry Potter. “He wasn’t around when the books came out, he wasn’t around when the movies came out!”, he jokes. “These stories have the spirit of catching people across generations. She touches on these themes which are timeless.”
This video is part of the Blu-ray and the digital edition of Fantastic Beasts: the Crimes of Grindelwald, which will be released on March 12th, 2019.
