Harry Potter Actors and Actresses

Diaries where Alan Rickman criticized Harry Potter films become a book

Diaries written by actor Alan Rickman, who played Professor Snape in the Harry Potterseries, will be collected and published in a book. This was the intention of the actor, who began writing the texts in the 1990s.

In all, the book, which will be published by Canongate, brings together 27 volumes written by Alan Rickman until 2016, the year the actor died of pancreatic cancer.

The diaries include the actor’s reflections on politics and his own career, as well as criticism of plays he watched and comments about the circle of friendships he was a part of, which included Bill Clinton, former U.S. President, and Emma Thompson, an actress who played Professor Trelawney in Harry potter.

Alan Rickman’s dissatisfaction with Harry Potter

Alan Rickman’s diaries also address the actor’s dissatisfaction with the Harry Potter films, which, for him, did not live up to the books, especially with regard to his character, Snape.

In one of the notes written in 2009, titled “Inside Snape’s Head”,Rickman wrote about how frustrated he was with the character’s development especially in The Half-Blood Prince.

“It’s like David Yates has [o diretor do filme] decided that some things aren’t important because they’re not attractive to the teenage audience.”

The texts also address the actor’s reflections on Simply Love, The Backpacker’s Guide to the Galaxies and Reason and Sensitivity,of which he was also a part.

Alan Rickman’s widow, Rima Horton, who has lived with the actor since 1965, not only agrees with the publication of the diaries, but is glad that the world will be able to read them.

“The diaries reveal not only actor Alan Rickman, but who was the real Alan, with his sense of humor, sharp remarks and his devotion to the arts,” he told The Guardian.

The book is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2022 in the United Kingdom and the United States. In Brazil, publication is not expected.
