Where is Hogwarts Legacy 2? The sequel was a no-show at every big 2026 games event

Fans marked their calendars, braced their hearts, and got nothing. Hogwarts Legacy 2 has reached the middle of 2026 without a single official announcement.

Expectations were sky high. Sony’s State of Play, on 2 June, was the favourite stage for the reveal. It came and went without the game. Summer Game Fest and the Xbox showcase followed, and they too passed with no mention of the sequel. Three big shop windows, three silences.

What we actually know came from Bloomberg. In March 2025, journalist Jason Schreier reported that Warner had cancelled the first game’s DLC and Definitive Edition to pour everything into the sequel. Around the same time, Warner’s chief financial officer called the sequel the games division’s “biggest priority”, while warning it was still “a couple of years down the road”.

On the rumour side, VGC’s Jordan Middler points to a 2027 or 2028 release, possibly lined up with the HBO series’ second season so Warner can strike on both fronts at once. Treat that as rumour, because that is exactly what it is. Another sign of life, and a verifiable one: Avalanche, the studio behind the first game, hired a community manager in 2026, a role that tends to appear when a marketing campaign is about to begin.

Then there is the elephant in the room called GTA 6, due in November 2026. Plenty of studios are dodging that date the way you would dodge a troll in the bathroom, and an RPG the size of Hogwarts Legacy is unlikely to want to launch in the shadow of the decade’s most anticipated release.

We do not deal in smoke here. Until Warner shows gameplay, a date and a title, it is all speculation, however exciting. The first Hogwarts Legacy was one of the best-selling games of 2023 and proved there is a huge appetite for a wizarding world to explore. The sequel will turn up.
