Meet Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout the new golden trio

After months of waiting, secret workshops, 32,000 audition tapes and all the anxiety that only a process like this can generate, on 27 May 2025, HBO finally revealed the names that will define a new generation of fans.

Dominic McLaughlin is the new Harry Potter.
Arabella Stanton is the new Hermione Granger.
Alastair Stout is the new Ron Weasley.

The fandom’s reaction was entirely predictable: a mixture of curiosity, frantic research into who these children are, and that strange feeling of seeing new faces in roles you’ve carried in your head for decades.

Who are the three

McLaughlin already has a screen credit in Grow, a family film. Stanton comes with an impressive CV for her age, she starred in Matilda the Musical in the West End from 2023 to 2024. And Stout is making his professional debut directly as Ron Weasley, which is simultaneously courageous and an enormous responsibility.

Gardiner and Mylod celebrated the announcement with a joint statement: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.”

The most important phrase is that one: “extraordinary search.” 32,000 children. Four months of workshops. And in the end, three young actors who, if the production does its job, will make new fans across the world fall in love with these characters for the first time.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint did that for one generation. Now it’s McLaughlin, Stanton and Stout’s turn. We’ll be here watching.
