David Heyman and Dan Fogler talk about Johnny Deppby Rodrigo Cavalheiro
After the controversy on Johnny Depp’s casting in “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, strong opinions emerged to defend or accuse the actor, known for his part as Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Amidst the recent confirmation that Depp will play Grindelwald, “Fantastic Beasts” producer David Heyman, also responsible for the Harry Potter franchise, spoke up again about the actor’s casting and the decision to maintain it in exclusive interview to the Snitch Seeker.
According to him, the casting and shooting happened before the issue in question and that, even though any kind of abuse is unacceptable – that being the central theme of J.K. Rowling’s work – no one really knows what really happened in that room, considering it’s not fair for him or anyone to judge. Dan Fogler, who plays the No-Maj Jacob Kowalski, said he haven’t worked with Depp yet and only found out he would be on the first film when he watched it with Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), but that he was always a fan of his work.
David Heyman affirmed yet that Depp is a wonderful actor and it’s a pleasure to deal with him in anything related to “Fantastic Beasts”, and everyone he talked to who have worked with Depp in the past or knew the actor had nothing to say about him but wonderful comments. He stresses that any form of abuse is unacceptable and that he will continue to work with Johnny Depp on the next films. Dan, on the other hand, prefers to wait for a final verdict before making any judgements.
“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is J.K. Rowling’s first movie script and the first of a five film series. Starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol and Dan Gogler, the film is directed by David Yates and premieres in 3D and IMAX on November 18th.
