Cursed Child soundtrack is available on streaming platforms
by Rodrigo CavalheiroThe The Cursed Child soundtrack is now available on Spotify, Apple Music e YouTube Music. The musician Imogen Heap met with the ptrdd at Palace Theatre, in London, where the play is on since July 2016, to reveal the behind the scenes of more than 100 musical moments she created for the story.
The invitation for the job came in an unusual way. Before hiring her, the play’s Director of Movement, Steven Hoggett, was already using her songs in the production. The soundtrack has known songs from the singer, reworked for the theatrical context because they had already been chosen by the Producer and the Director of Movement. Among them is Half Life, that can be heard at the Staircase Ballet track, when the two friends Albus Severus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy have to be in Hogwarts and are not allowed to talk to each other, following Harry’s ban.
Differently from Fantastic Beasts, The Cursed Child soundtrack does not have any references to Harry Potter. “The producers didn’t want any references. They were trying to create a completely different experience”, explained the singer, who have not read the Harry Potter books, and only watched a few of the movies.
Imogen wrote the songs at the auditorium of the British Theatre while watching the production rehearsals. During the composition period, she used a library of virtual instruments, as she could not carry her instruments to the theatre.
The album has 42 tracks, divided into 4 suites.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is playing in London and New York. The play will premiere in Melbourne, Australia, in February 2019; in San Francisco in 2019; and in Hamburg, Germany, in 2020.
