Harry Potter and Voldemort paraded in São Paulo during Carnival

By Alícia Marédi and Gabriela Shatz

The Wizarding World returned to the Brazilian Carnival after six years since its last apparition in the festivity. Harry Potter was part of the allegories of the Samba School Império de Casa Verde, three times champion of the Carnival in São Paulo, that paraded on Saturday (2), at the Sambadrome Anhembi.

The school paid tribute to the 124 years of cinema, since the first exhibition of the Lumière brothers, until the contemporaneous successes, like Harry Potter, which was remembered at two moments of the parade.

In the first car, a Sambista dressed up as Harry Potter danced alongside Lord Voldemort and other popular characters such as Captain Jack Sparrow, from The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, the superhero Flash, and several Disney princesses.

In the third allegory of the parade, they remembered fantasy movies, Hogwarts flags decorated the car alongside with dragons, lions, and statues of the Lord of The Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia sagas.

Rocked by the song The Empire Strikes Back, an allusion to the Star Wars franchise, the school retracted the evolution of cinema over the years. Among the stories shown, also was Singing in the Rain, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Jurassic Park, Toy Story, and Titanic.

To wrap up the parade, the school presented classics of futuristic science fiction, leaving the avenue a few seconds before their maximum time.
