Harry Potter fan breaks world record with her collection of official memorabiliaPor Gabriela Schatz
The largest collection of items from the Wizarding World is now officially recognized by Guinness World Records, the book of records. It belongs to a Slytherin: British woman Victoria Maclean, who took 18 years to assemble 3.686 items, all official merchandise, including artifacts from the Harry Potter saga and the new Fantastic Beasts franchise.
Among the items, are 26 Pop! figures, 115 Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts pins, 34 wands, 302 postcards and 114 Harry Potter books.
Victoria had her first contact with the saga created by J.K. Rowling in 2001, four years after the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in the UK. Her collection began with a copy of the first book and today she even has a bathroom decorated to honor saga. “It’s part of our lives. My bed is from Harry Potter. My pillows are from Harry Potter. My socks, my coats. Everything is from Harry Potter. I even had a Harry Potter themed wedding”, Maclean told BBC.
“I was pregnant with my first son and kept hearing the name Harry Potter. I think J. K. Rowling was being interviewed and I thought, ‘You know what, I cannot do much, so I’m going to buy the book and read it.’ I was dyslexic, the book was thin, it looked manageable. So, I went and bought the book. Two weeks later I finished and never looked back”, said Victoria in an interview to Guinness World.
Victoria revealed that the rarest and hardest item to get was a 24-carat gold-plated puzzle from Japan. Only five thousand pieces were made, and it took Victoria six years to get a copy. Even possessing a collection estimated at 100,000 pounds, she wants to continue to increase it. “I’ll never stop collecting unless I really need it. I do not smoke, I rarely drink – this is my addiction”, she added.
The previous record belongs to a Mexican: Menahem Asher Silvas Vargas, who has a collection of 3.097 items from the Harry Potter saga.
