Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The Crimes of Grindelwald is expected to collect $65 million dollars on opening week

According to Variety, the forecast for the opening box office in the United States for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is 65 to 75 million dollars. The forecast is similar to that of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, which collected 74 million dollars in its opening week.

The estimate takes into consideration the lack of competition faced by the movie, given the only other premieres that week are Widows and Instant Family. The following week, however, the movie will have to compete with Creed II, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Robin Hood.

In the movie industry, a sequel is considered a success when the box office is similar to the previous movies. In the Wizarding World, with the exception of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, all movies collected less than the previous one, and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone collected the most.

Written by J.K. Rowling and directed by David Yates, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is starred by Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Jude Law and Johnny Depp. The film premieres on November 16, 2018
