J.K. Rowling asked to change Dumbledore’s wand while filming

During the opening of an open air installation of wands from the Wizarding World on behalf of NGO Lumos, British fansite Fantastic Beasts Movies interviewed Pierre Bohanna, head prop maker, who explained the reasons to change Albus Dumbledore’s wand, seen in the first cast picture of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

“This is the wand we built originally for Dumbledore and this is the wand that Jude Law used throughout the main production”, explained Bohanna. “When Jo (Rowling) saw that, she loved it, apart from she felt it was too much like the Elder Wand, so it was changed for some reshoots and then they did the changes in post production to the wand with the swirl”, he revealed.

The artist, who worked in all Wizarding World films, explained that the wand was actually clear, full of carbon fibers and fiberglass. The idea was to make it sharp and translucent.

Written by J.K. Rowling and directed by David Yates, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol Dan Fogler, Johnny Depp and Jude Law in the leading roles. The movie premieres on November 16, 2018.
