11 creatures we will see in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

1. Boggart
Studied by Harry Potter during his third year in Hogwarts, Boggarts are creatures that takes on the form of the viewer’s worst fear. In The Crimes of Grindelwald, the Boggart reveals Newt’s biggest fear as a teenager: to work in an office.
2. Kelpie
Kelpie is a metamorphic demon which, after luring riders, dives to the bottom of the water and gobbles them. The largest example of its species is found in Loch Ness, Scotland.
3. Augurey
The Augurey appears in a low flight behind Jacob. It is a thin, sad looking and black-greenish colored bird whose song, low and sobbing, announces the coming of rain. Beyond the greenish tail and part if the head, it is noticeable that, in the background where the bird appears, it is raining.

5. Niffler
Its presence was already confirmed by Eddie Redmayne in an interview for Entertainment Weekly, but Niffler hadn’t been seen in photos or in the previous trailer of The Crimes of Grindewald. The creature, which is fascinated by shiny objects, will probably make trouble for Newt again: in the scene, he escapes Newt’s case and run to the streets of Paris.
6. Bowtruckle
Pickett, Newt’s pet Bowtruckle, is back and, judging by the trailer, is getting into trouble. Looking like a stick, the Bowtruckle is a harmless and shy creature, but if the tree where it lives is threatened, the Bowtruckle is said to jump and pierce the attacker’s eyes with its long, sharp fingers. It’s considered valuable by smugglers because of its lockpicking ability, as seen in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
7. Mooncalves
The Mooncalves are back for the second movie of the franchise. Known for performing complex dances under the moonlight, the Mooncalves are harmless and fascinate wizards around the world. If collected before sunrise, their droppings can be used as a powerful compost for magical plants. In the first trailer, the creatures appear inside Newt’s case, with round, protruding eyes.

8. Creature that isn’t Lethifold
The second trailer revealed a kind of dark mantle which covers the streets of Paris. Some fans speculated that it would be Lethifold, a creature which chokes its victim and digests them. However, the speculation must be untrue. Lethifolds are only found in tropical climates, aren’t able to fly and don’t attack during the daylight.
9. Creature that isn’t Wampus
Pottermore also described this creature as new. However, some fans speculated that they were Wampus, symbol of one of Ilvermorny houses. But this speculation isn’t true. Wampus has six pawns and its eyes are yellow, while these creatures have only four pawns and blue eyes.
10. A Chinese creature
On an interview to IGN, Eddie Redmayne, who plays Newt Scamander, revealed that this is a chinese creature. It is a new creature in the Wizarding World, and there are no further details about it.
11. A Moose
On a scene from the first trailer, there is a moose behind Jacob. This creature however is not described in the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
In an interview for Entertainment Weekly, producer David Heyman explained “There are as many beasts in the film as in the first, but the main driver in the first film was finding the beasts. That’s not the driver in this film, it’s not a central part of the plot”.
