Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Germany will be the first non-english speaking country to host the Cursed Child play

The producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child revealed that the fifth production of the play will premiere in the city of Hamburg, Germany, in 2020. Under the title Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind, this will be the first production of the play in a language that isn’t English.

The German production will premiere in the European spring, between March and May, and will be played on the Mehr! Theatre, the biggest one in Hamburg and that has already hosted productions as We Will Rock You, a Queen-inspired musical, and Billy Elliot.

The producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender said to be ‘delighted and grateful to have the opportunity to design and create a perfect, bespoke new home for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Germany’, indicating that, as happened to the Lyric Theatre on Broadway and the Princess Theatre in Australia, the Mehr! Theatre must be remodeled to host the production.
