5 Harry Potter-themed bands you need to know

Wizard Rock is a music genre that was created by Harry Potter fans in 2004, when The Order of the Phoenix wasn’t even released. With the help of a time turner, we listed 5 bands of this subgenre that have all it takes to leave you humming about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with a nostalgic – or even comic – feeling. After all, as Professor Dumbledore once said,
“ah, music! A magic far beyond we do here”.

1. Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls
Writer of the most used songs in tribute videos to the saga, Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls has two EPs and two CDs released since its creation, in 2006. In a partnership with MMtM Records – what’s rare among the WRock scenery, where most bands don’t have this kind of support -, the founder Christian Caldeira produces muggle songs nowadays.

2. Draco and the Malfoys
Founded by the brothers Bradley Mehlenbacher and Brian Ross in 2004, the band songs about the Harry Potter saga’s plot under Draco Malfoy’s point of view. Hence their songs sound rather comical and have slightly cruel lyrics, as in My Dad is Rich. After five albums and a featuring with Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) the band came to its end in 2011.

3. Harry and the Potters
Harry and the Potters was a pioneer on the Wizard Rock movement. Founded by Joe and Paul DeGeorge, the bad have had another 11 members. With three albums and seven EPs, its members founded an independent label, Eskimo Laboratories, and starred the documentary Wizard Rockumentary.

4. The Remus Lupins
Founded by three frienss, the band sang about the history of the boy who lived from Remus Lupin’s point of view That’s whay some songs, dedicated to Tonks and Teddy, sound sad. With two released albums, the band also came to na end in 2011.

5. The Moaning Myrtles
Founded in 2005 by two best friends, the band released one EP and two CDs. As the name suggests, the girls sing from Moaning Myrtles point of view. Its songs have a comical and satirical tone to it. It couldn’t be any different: there’s one dedicated to the hot Hogwart’s houses monitors!

Brother of the writer John Green (The Fault in Our Stars), Hank Green has composed some
songs about Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling. Amongst his hits is Oh, J.K. Rowling.
