J.K. Rowling Talks About The Cormoran Strike Series Adaptation

BBC One, responsible for the production of the TV series based on the Cormoran Strike books, posted today (26) on Facebook a video in which J.K. Rowling talks about what she expected when she started writing the novels that inspired the TV series, and also brings more details on the plot and characters.

On the interview, Rowling says that she have always wanted to write a crime novel, long before her work with The Cuckoo’s Calling, and that she hoped her pseudonym (Robert Galbraith) wouldn’t be exposed for at least the first three books so she could “simply write”, without “the baggage that came with being her”, which didn’t happen because Robert’s real identity was revealed short after the publishing of the first book.

The video also shows us interactions between the main characters Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke) and Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger) and small fragments that introduce us to the mystery, as well as comments by cast and crew members.

According to executive producer Ruth Kenley-Letts, Hollywood tried to contact the author and acquire the story’s copyright, but Rowling’s plans to write several books about the detective got BBC’s attention, the mystery being much more fit for the television format. The Digital Spy also revealed that J.K. was involved in the casting and, as executive producer, always followed the production from up close.

The series will premiere this Sunday (27) with Cuckoo’s Calling and will air on BBC One (United Kingdom).
