The Pottermore news team revelead exclusively that the two-time Oscar nominee will be Albus Dumbledore, future headmaster of Hogwarts, in the sequel of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Director David Yates said:

Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I’ve long admired and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him. I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.

Jude Law’s career took off after his 1997 movie Wilde, where he portrayed poet Lord Alfred Douglas, expanding into works for movies, TV and theatre. Aside being nominated for an Oscar twice, he was also nominated for three Golden Globes, two BAFTAs, three Olivier Awards and two Tonys. He was last seen in the HBO miniseries The Young Pope.

He was also seen in a number of movies with previous Harry Potter actors, such as Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Hotel Budapest, Helen McCrory, Frances De La Tour and Richard Griffiths in Hugo and even Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, where the three of them portrayed the same character, Tony Shepherd.

It was also confirmed that filming begins this summer.

The sequel for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is untitled as of yet, but it will take us in deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes must decide on their allegiances. With a screenplay by J.K. Rowling, the movie will be directed by David Yates, with a release date for 16 November 2018.
